Plain answers about writing, people, privacy and plans in Reflections.
What is Reflections?
A private journal I built for two things: understanding yourself and nurturing the relationships that matter most. You open to a blank page, write what is true, and let your thoughts settle. Everything is encrypted on your device before it ever touches a server.
Is it free?
Yes. Writing is free with no note limit, and you can always read and edit everything you have written.
Where can I use it?
In any modern browser, as an app you can install from the browser, and as an Android app. There is no iPhone app yet.
Is Reflections therapy?
No. Reflections is a personal writing tool. I built it for personal reflection, not therapy, crisis support, or medical care. If you are in danger or distress, contact your local emergency number or a crisis line.
What can I add to a note?
Your words, plus a mood, tags, a cover image and attachments if you want them. When the page feels too blank, Home offers a prompt, and the editor can play quiet sounds while you write.
Can I write offline?
Yes, each note is saved on your device first, then synced when you are back online.
Does any AI read my writing?
No AI service ever sees it. Search, related notes and tag suggestions all run on your device, using a small model that your device downloads once, and your writing is never used to train AI models.
How does speaking a note work?
Voice notes use the speech recognition built into your browser. Your browser may send the audio to its own provider to turn it into text. Chrome, for example, sends it to Google. If you want every word to stay on your device, type instead.
What is Release?
A quiet place for thoughts you need to lay down for good. When you let them go, the words dissolve into darkness and are erased forever. Reflections records only that a release happened, never what was written.
How do letters to my future self work?
Write a letter to the person you will be months or years from now, and seal it with a date. Until that morning arrives, it stays locked inside your journal. When the day comes, it opens quietly inside Reflections. Letters are not sent by email.
How does People work?
Add the friends and family who make your life rich. When you mention someone in your notes, Reflections remembers. Each week it quietly suggests someone to check in on, reminding you of what they care about or what you last wrote, so your best relationships stay strong without feeling like work.
Does writing about someone count as keeping in touch?
No. Thinking of someone is warm, but a relationship lives in real contact. A person only counts as caught up when you log a conversation or mark them done for the week.
Can I import my contacts?
Yes. Open a contacts file (.vcf), such as an export from Google Contacts, or on Android choose people from your contacts. They are read on your device, encrypted there, and wait in an inbox. You choose who to add.
Will Reflections remind me about birthdays?
Inside the app, birthdays, reminders and reasons to reconnect appear on Home and in People. Reflections does not send push notifications or emails about them.
Who can read my writing?
Only you can. Notes, moods, tags, attachments, letters and the people you add are encrypted on your device before they are saved. The key is locked with a password only you know, and I never see it.
What happens if I forget my password?
You saved a recovery key when you set up private writing. It is the only other way in. I cannot reset it for you, so keep it somewhere safe.
Does the server see anything?
Some things, yes: your email address and name, your plan, and when items were created or changed. It cannot read what you wrote. The Privacy page lists everything.
What does Pro cost?
Pro costs ₹49/week or ₹149/month after a 3-day trial, which each account gets once. Razorpay takes your payment details when the trial starts and makes the first charge when it ends, and Pro renews until you cancel.
What does Pro add?
Nothing is locked behind Pro. It is an optional way to support my work on Reflections, and it pays for encrypted sync and storage. The app works identically on both plans.
How do I cancel?
In Account, choose Cancel Pro. Pro stays until the end of the period you paid for, then you move to the free plan. Nothing you wrote is deleted.
Can I export my writing?
Account has a full backup (.json) and an archive (.zip) with one Markdown file per note. You can also export a single note as Markdown. Exports are not encrypted, so store them with care. Moods and letters are not in exports yet.
How do I delete everything?
In Account, choose Delete data or account. You can delete your saved writing and keep your sign-in, or delete the account too, which also cancels Pro. Either choice takes effect straight away.
